Once a year, the Bar Hill Fête & Festival is held in the green of this village. The 2024 event was held on Saturday, 13th July 2024. The rain managed to hold off (for most of the day!) and a good time was had by all.
Here's a message from Kate Bennett (Chair) and the whole Fête & Festival Committee;
Hi Everyone,
Another year on, and another Fete & Festival is planned and ready to go!
This is the current Committee's fourth year of running the Fete & Festival and we hope this is the biggest and best so far.
The aim of the Fete & Festival is to have a day that residents from Bar Hill and surrounding areas can come together to support local businesses, charities and community groups, have a natter and maybe a drink or two to water down the delicious food on offer. There are plenty of fabulous bands throughout the day and evening to have a little boogie to as well - what more could you want?
To join us this year, please head down to the village hall and village Church from 2 pm on Saturday 13th July.
I'd like to say a massive THANK YOU to the small group of individuals who have made this year’s event possible - there's always room for help, so if you'd like to be involved next year, please contact us at volunteering@barhill-ca.org. Thank you also to the stalls, vendors and bands that will be at the Fete & Festival this year - we hope you enjoy it. A thank you to the volunteers who ensure the stage runs smoothly and to the resident Fete & Festival DJ, Shakey, for his help and support. We'd also like to thank all our sponsors who made the event possible, especially in these tough financial times. You'll see adverts for our sponsors throughout this programme. Finally, thanks to you for turning up! Without your continued support we wouldn't have a Fete & Festival to run.
The Fete & Festival is almost as old as the village itself and we hope it's a tradition we can keep going for many years to come - and maybe one year we'll actually get a sunny day too!
Well done and 'congratulations' to our colouring competition winner Charlotte (age 8) whose picture adorns our front cover, and to the runners up whose picture are on the back.
We hope you have a great day and enjoy yourselves loads
Kind regards
Kate Bennett (Chair) on behalf of the whole Fete & Festival Committee.
This year's headlining act at the Festival was The Riffugees.
"The Riffugees are a highly experienced four-piece band with dual guitar and harmony vocals, with all band members adding backing vocals to enhance songs. The twin guitarists have played together for over 20 years and frequently trade licks and harmonise throughout songs. All the band members play in multiple groups, come together to play great music, and have fun in The Riffugees, which you will see on stage during their performance.
We are a highly experienced band that delivers quality songs from the classical, blues, and southern rock genres. We cover great songs from ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, Status Quo, Chris Rea, Dire Straits, Free, Thin Lizzy, Blue Oyster Cult, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and more! There are plenty of big songs to get you singing and dancing in the streets! Take a trip down memory land and join us for some of the best music from the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. "
You can follow the band on their Facebook page.
In addition to our headline act this year, we will also be featuring performances from;
Simon grew up in Cambridge with an eclectic musical upbringing, which is reflected in his performances. From pubs to wedding venues, festivals to corporate events, armed with a guitar and a big voice, he covers a high-energy repertoire that spans pop, soul, rock and indie on a one-man mission to get people singing, dancing and enjoying themselves.
It formed 18 years ago and is well known around St Ives, Huntingdon, Cambridge and beyond. They mainly play ‘glam rock’ from the 1970s, including Sweet, Slade, T-Rex, Bowie and many more. It is guaranteed to get you singing and dancing and having a laugh.
They’re gorgeous to look at, too!
